Childhood Cancer awareness

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September 8, 2022

Some days my job is wonderful and some days it's downright incredible! How was today? INCREDIBLE!

My friend, Jana, is a nurse at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  To honor Childhood Cancer Awareness month, she invited  me to spend a few hours in the clinic with the children as they were receiving treatment.  This family of nurses is amazing! I was a witness to such great kindness, compassion and wonderful encouraging words for little ones who were struggling. Through tears and upset tummies these beautiful children face hard days. Then a song of jubilee, complete with confetti, to celebrate the last day of treatment for another.

What a joy it was for me to have the opportunity to bring a few smiles to their difficult days. This month, and everyday, remember to pray for the children who need healing in their bodies. And also, for their families, caregivers and nurses who love them dearly.

A little Window Painting Project

January 25, 2021

My face painting friend, Becky's, daughter in law has a cute little boutique. She asked Becky and I if we would be willing to do some window painting for her shop and, of course, we said, YES! A shout out to all you window painters out there...It is a lot of work and I have a whole new appreciation for your art! Just saying.

We painted two windows for her and they turned out really cute. This was a wonderful diversion during the shutdown and I am grateful for the opportunity to hang out with my friend and be creative.

Oompa Loompas

October 19, 2019

The church that I am a member of has a wonderful pastoral staff. One pastor in particular is always up for anything and is also, a chocoholic. Being that this congregation is full of creative people, we decided to create the Chocolate Factory as a 60th  birthday surprise. We painted sets, created props, ordered costumes, taught the kids a skit,  and put on the most amazing party ever! I have to admit, when that curtain was pulled back to reveal the set, the collective Ohhhhhh.... in the room, made the whole thing totally worth every  minute.  The kids loved being painted orange with white eyebrows. LOL They were pretty cute.

Zombies win first place!

September 17, 2019

True confession..... I am in this photo. LOL

My girlfriends and I take a beach trip every September, where we meet with other ladies from Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. There are about 17 of us and each year we choose a theme. We decorate our condo, prepare food, do a skit or dress in costume. This year was Halloween, so my bunch, referred to as the Shreveport bunch (although only 1 of us lives in Shreveport.) decided to do our own rendition of "Thriller". We designed our rags, practiced and practiced our little dance until the big day. I had 10 minutes to get us all painted like zombies, so decided to use powers. It was super quick, but effective. The girls were laughing hysterically and we took the prize.

Now, can you guess which one of these beauties is me?

KISS Gene Simmons

KISS face painting

September 7, 2019

The KISS tour was in, Bossier City, this weekend and fans from all over town and some from out-of-town showed up in true fan fashion!  My fellow face painters and I were driving all over the Shreveport/Bossier area to get everyone painted. I even had the opportunity  to meet a great family from, Oklahoma, who came just for the concert. Love it!

Today, I used a new product from Body Color. Face paint that will not melt when the client gets hot (sweats). It takes longer to activate and I found it had to be reactivated very often. Slow going, but my clients all reported great satisfaction with the results! YAY!

I heard the concert did not disappoint either!

Realistic Tiger

August 30, 2019

I've been taking an on-line face painting school. It's been wonderful and terrible. Wonderful, because, I have been introduced to many artist world wide, learned techniques that have really helped me to improve my art and grown a HUGE appreciation for the amazing talent that is out there. It's also horrible, because, it's closing in on 50 years since I've gone to school. And it's Hard! LOL You never realize just how much activity you pack into a day until you add a new one.  I may never finish these classes, but they have been a tremendous help to me and I hope to be able to graduate one day.

This is Katie. She is a gorgeous young lady and also, a great sport for allowing me to test this realistic tiger on her. It took me about 45 minutes to get it done. She LOVED it, I see the flaws. LOL But it's a great first try.

Happy Puppy

August 25, 2019

I painted this cute little girl as a quick puppy design and she just loved it! She even barked at me. LOL She was definitely into the role. A short while after they left the venue, her mom sent me this photo of her hanging her head out the window of the car, just like a happy puppy!

This totally made my day!

Glitter!

March 1, 2019

I might have a glitter addiction.....maybe. ;-)

Guess who lost the BET!

October 1, 2018

This cute couple walked up to our tent at the Red River Revel to have their faces painted. But, something was happening. I never got the whole story, but someone lost a bet. Can you guess who?

Unicorn horn bling handmade face painting party girls birthday

Handmade unicorn horns for bling parties

May 4, 2018

There is a new thing in face painting! The bling just gets better and better. Now, we are into handmade unicorn horns with bling. The little girls are so in love!! I booked my very first "Unicorn Horn Bling Party", this week, so I got busy making the horns from Sculpey Clay. It was actually a lot of fun and very relaxing.  They turned out amazing! Needless to say, my little unicorn babies went crazy and the party was a huge success.

I have no idea who started this craze, but KUTOS to them. Brilliant!

Krewe of Harambee Queen XVII

February 25, 2017

It was an honor to be asked by Terry Jackson, this years Krewe of Harambee Queen VXII, to paint her for the Saada Maskhara Bal. She is beautiful and a delight to work with. Her costume was amazing and I'm pretty sure her presentation will be a favorite for years to come.

May the 4th be with you

I am a Star Wars fan. I saw the very first movie with my husband just a couple of weeks before  we were married. These designs were done with the help of stencils. Didn't they turn out great!

What my hands have done

June 27, 2014

I found this photo on a customer’s page. At first, I was amazed at how much my hands look like my grandmother’s. Then it made me think of all the things my hands have done

My hands have…

Splashed in the ocean and dug in the sand.

Punched and cut and colored and glued.

Cupped around ears as whispers were said

Been scraped and bled as they slipped from trees.

Slammed in car doors and stung by bees.

Caressed by strong hands and loves sweet kiss

Adorned with rings as vows were made

Cuddled a new babe and counted tiny toes.

Combed yards of hair and woven French braids

Spanked foolish bottoms and wiped away tears

Gave hugs and pats and squeezes galore

Shushed noisy children and given thumbs up.

Played This Little Piggy and stole little noses.

Strung beads and popcorn and cranberries, too

Let go of young hands as larger they grew.

Turned blue when too cold then red when burned

Sorted laundry, kneaded bread and stacked firewood.

Planted and watered and picked a harvest

They've turned the pages of God’s Word and have

been folded in prayer.

I hope, Jesus, is pleased with what my hands have done.

FPBA Convention St Louis MO face painting

My first face painting convention

november 11, 2013

This week, Ejay and I were blessed to be able to attend the Face Painting Body Art Convention (FPBA) in St. Louis, MO. WOW! Ok, from the beginning..... I drove. I was so excited that I think my tongue was going as fast as the car. According to Ejay, I jabbered non-stop the whole way. Don't ask me what I talked about cause I have NO IDEA!

We stayed at the Crown Plaza Hotel for the week and never left. There was so much to see and do, Face painters from everywhere, an entire room of products, and amazing balloons on every level. We took classes from artist like, Nick Wolfe, Dutch Bihary, and my favorite class, Amazing Cats by  Mark Reid. I don't know if I will ever be able to paint like him.

It was an incredible week! I am completely overwhelmed by the talent I saw. I had no idea. But I am super inspired to keep trying and to keep on painting. Because I LOVE IT!

Today, I became a professional face painter! It's the opening day of the Red River Revel and I still cannot believe I was invited to be part of this amazing team of painters.

Thank you Ejay, for your encouragement and your faith that I can really do this! And so, the adventure begins.
